In my book, winter’s ultimate comfort comes from a silent moment & a good cup of tea. Curled up in bed, buried under covers is a heavenly place to be, but not when you’re down with the sickness. I dodge any bugs or flu’s with my reliable immunity stimulating-elixir. This recipe makes 1 pot (6 cups) of tea.
Here’s What and Why:
- 2 tablespoons organic green tea
- 2 inches thinly-chopped ginger
- 1/4 cup chamomile flowers
- 1/4 cup echinacea root
*Add the juice of 1/2 lemon and 1 tablespoon of honey to each cup that you serve.
Honey is power packed with minerals, and lemon with antioxidants and vitamin C, giving the body a boost to block out germs that cause colds and flus. Chamomile Flowers are a time-honored herb used to promote sleep, and continually scrimping on sleep will leave you sick as a dog this season. This herb will also encourage a calmness, to ease the influence of stress on your body. Green Tea is used to help improve mood and promote a general sense of well-being. Echinacea Root has an impressive checklist of healing benefits, but most importantly, it strengthens your immune system from the core. Ginger is the star of this remedy, and in most according to my preference. When I think about the absolute impressiveness of the earth and its magical cures, spices and herbs like ginger are what keep me searching for natural solutions in my life. Stomach issue? Ginger. Body Ache? Ginger. Medical Preventative? Ginger. You get the point. So, the reason ginger root ended up in this immune brew is for it’s effectiveness as an anti-inflammatory. Brewed or Eaten, it can kick a migraine or muscle ache quick. It also improves circulation, so it can help warm up cold hands and feet on these bleak winter mornings. Overall, this blend of healing herbs, citrus & honey keeps your immune system strong all season long. Treat your body to a piping hot mug of this brew: after playin’ in the snow, on a frigid day or as an afternoon pick-me up when you’re feeling a little off.
