This blend of honey, nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric, and ginger boasts an impressive array of skin benefits. It evens and brightens your skin tone, eases signs of aging by plumping new cells, and reduces inflammation– which is great for breakouts. Each component of this mask is important, but the star of this recipe is nutmeg. This miracle spice from Indonesia has been used since medieval times, and is said to heal scars and stimulate skin, drawing blood, oxygen and nutrients to the surface. Nutmeg is used for its holistic antibacterial properties, so this mask will also reduce clogged pores/blackheads and balance the oil production of your skin.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 1 1/2 tablespoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 cup raw local honey
Be sure that your honey is thin and smooth by de-crystallizing it over boiling water. Portion out 1/2 cup in a glass dish and beat rapidly with with a whisk until it develops a light cloudy color. Next, add in your spices and whisk until they are well incorporated. Spoon your mask into a glass container and store at room temperature.
Be certain that your hair is secured away from the face, in a bun or with a headband. To prepare your skin for a mask, cleanse well and pat dry. Now, use your fingers to spread a thin and even layer of this keeping a 1/2 inch distance from your hairline– this stuff is sticky! Leave this mask on for up to 30 minutes. I find the best time to wear my mask is while I do morning chores, or in the evening when I read. To remove, Dampen a towel* with very warm water and wipe away the mask, rinsing the towel often. Make sure that you gotten the entire mask off of your face and moisturize as you normally would. This blend will keep for months, so make a big batch and keep in in your beauty arsenal. These benefits really can’t be beat when your skin needs a powerful pick-me-up!
* this towel will get stained, I chose one towel to keep just for any turmeric beauty products!
