Welcome Spring! A magical time is upon us, a season of sweet sunshine & growth! St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone. Another year, one more for the books: I have endured junk food, irish drinks & zero h20. A drastic detox is in order & I am itching to embrace it. The earth is changing, blossoming from the core & shaking off the bonds of the seasons passed. Let’s launch into a new season with focus, and a peaceful pace. One method I am making necessary is a natural diet & beauty regime. The best way to refresh for spring is by eliminating the toxic elements. Leave behind any behaviors that don’t benefit your growth. Swap to whole foods, fruits, veggies & iced green tea instead of a peppermint latte. I’m going to dedicate two days a month for conditioning & detoxing. To start, hot coconut & argan oil treatment for the hair and scalp. To treat the skin, I’ll show you how to make a french green clay, avocado, and honey face mask.
Why French Green Clay?
The clay stimulates blood circulation, & has intense absorptive strength. It is also a miraculous anti-inflammatory aid. It draws toxins and impurities out of the skin. Used in a facial mask the clay penetrates the pores, removing toxins, impurities and excess oils and serums out of the cells. Other uses for green clay are to help heal splinters, insect bites, muscle aches, migraines, sunburn, and arthritis. I keep about 1 cup on hand for various natural remedies, So when purchasing try just a bit at first and then get into larger orders.
To start the mask, Mash about 1/2 of an avocado by using a spatula to scrape and flatten the avocado until it is a completely smooth blend.
For this mask use a locally harvested honey. I’m using a bit of last spring’s batch from my honey’s mother’s hive. (below) Local honey will help your skin to adapt to allergens and pollens before they bloom this season. This will reduce redness, dryness, and sensitivity if used frequently as a skin conditioner.
Add 1 tablespoon of honey to the mashed avocado.
Once incorporated, add a pinch at a time of green clay powder while you continue to whisk. Once completely smooth, we’re done! Get ready for super soft, spring-ready, detoxified skin. Start by washing your face with an lightly exfoliating scrub or soap. I used a locally made milk & oatmeal bar, and a semi-soft cotton wash cloth. Dry your skin well, and apply the mask with two fingers. Get as close to the edges of your hairline as you can, and don’t miss areas like the sides of your nose, and between your eyebrows. This is where stubborn oil hides. Leave the mask on for 10 minutes & rinse with warm water. Apply a light moisturizer afterwards & enjoy your fresh glowing skin!
